What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyper-pigmentation occurs when the skin produces more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. This can make spots or patches of skin appear darker than surrounding areas.Hyper-pigmentation is a common skin condition. It affects people of all skin types. Some forms of hyper-pigmentation, including melasma and sun spots, are more likely to affect areas of skin that face sun exposure, including the face, arms, and legs.Other types of hyper-pigmentation form after an injury or skin inflammation, such as cuts, burns, acne, or lupus. These can occur anywhere on the body.

How to get rid of Hyperpigmentation?

Although hyper-pigmentation is harmless, some people wish to get rid of it. There are a range of possible treatment methods and home remedies that people can try.

To prevent hyper-pigmentation, or to stop it becoming more prominent:

  • Avoid exposure to the sun. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect the skin and stop hyper-pigmentation from becoming darker.
  • Avoid picking at the skin. To prevent hyper-pigmentation from forming after an injury, avoid picking at spots, scabs, and acne.

Pigmentation Treatment by Home Remedies

These days, skin diseases and infections are becoming quite common due to the ever-increasing problem of pollution. Skin pigmentation and dark spots on the skin is one of those serious problems which occur when there is hormonal imbalance, irregular sleep or any other complication. Many times females use concealers, creams and other chemical remedies which can temporarily solve their problem but they forget to focus on the root of the problem as well as on the aftereffects of using them. A person should feel comfortable with his skin.

2019 review study suggests that the following natural treatments may be able to reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation:

Aloe Vera

Aloesin, a compound that is present in aloe vera, may lighten hyper-pigmentation. Aloesin works by inhibiting the production of melanin in the skin.

To Use:

  • Before going to bed, apply some fresh aloe vera gel on the hyper-pigmented skin and leave it on overnight. Rinse it off in the morning. Follow this remedy daily for a few weeks to get positive results.
  • Combine two tablespoons of aloe vera gel and one-half tablespoon of raw honey. Mix well and allow it to settle for 10 minutes. Now apply the mixture to the pigmentation and let it dry naturally. After 20 minutes, wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once daily for at least two weeks and every other day thereafter until you get the desired results.

Green Tea

Green tea extracts may improve hyper-pigmentation. Researchers have long studied green tea for its potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. You can purchase green tea extract and apply it as directed. Some websites suggest applying green tea bags to dark spots for a lightening effect, though there is no evidence to back this claim.

  3. Rub the tea bag over your dark patches.
  4. Repeat twice a day until you get results.

  • Soak a cotton ball in the milk.
  • Rub it over darkened skin patches twice a day.
  • Repeat daily until you see results.
